Cialis contains tadalafil, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) as well as the symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate). Adcirca is a brand of tadalafil that is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension and increase exercise capacity in both men and women.
Warnings
- Do not take tadalafil if you are also taking nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate, or any recreational medications like “poppers” for chest pain or cardiac problems. When tadalafil is used with nitrate medication, blood pressure can drop suddenly and dramatically.
- When tadalafil is used with other medications, it can result in undesired or serious side effects. Tell your doctor about any medications you’re taking, notably riociguat (Adempas).
- If your erection is painful or lasts longer than 4 hours, contact your doctor or seek emergency medical treatment. The penis can be damaged by a prolonged erection (priapism).
- Seek medical attention right away if you have nausea, chest discomfort, or dizziness while having sex.
- If you experience sudden vision loss, stop taking tadalafil and seek immediate medical attention.
Before you start taking any medication, make sure you have everything you need.
If you are allergic to tadalafil, you should avoid using it.
When tadalafil is used with some other medications, it might produce a dangerous drop in blood pressure. If you use any of the following medications, you should not take this one.
- riociguat (for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension);
- nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate, or recreational medications like amyl nitrate or nitrite “poppers” (for chest pain or cardiac difficulties).
After each dose, some tadalafil can stay in your system for 2 or more days (longer if you have liver or kidney disease). During this time, stay away from nitrates.
How should I take tadalafil?
Tadalafil is often only taken once a day. Follow your prescription’s instructions to the letter. This medicine should not be taken in bigger or smaller doses or for longer than suggested.
- You can take tadalafil with or without food.
- Cialis tablets should not be broken or split. It should be swallowed entirely.
- Cialis should be used soon before sexual activity for erectile dysfunction, but not more than once per day. It is safe to use up to 36 hours before sexual activity. When sexual arousal occurs, Generic Cialis can assist in achieving an erection. Taking a tablet will not result in an erection.
- If you’re taking Adcirca for pulmonary arterial hypertension, don’t use Cialis for erectile dysfunction.
What happens if I forget to take a dose?
You are unlikely to be on a dosing schedule if you use tadalafil as needed.
If you take tadalafil daily and forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If your next scheduled dose is approaching, skip the missing dose. To make up for a missed dose, do not take more medicine.

What to avoid?
When this prescription is combined with alcohol, it might produce a drop in blood pressure, which can lead to dizziness or fainting.
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may cause undesired side effects when taken with tadalafil. While using this medication, stay away from grapefruit products.
