Verizon 5G Home Internet vs. T Mobile Home Internet: Which is Best for Your Home?
Verizon and T-Mobile both provide 5g home internet. Both providers can connect to your home via a dedicated cellular network. How do they compare?
5G is continuing its national rollout. It offers millimeter-wave cellular speeds at faster frequencies than 4GLTE. This is a huge deal for mobile phones and other gadgets that connect via cellular airwaves. It could also be a game-changer for home networking.
The potential to reach near-gigabit speeds with the air, which rivals what cable and fiber internet service providers offer, and the appeal of simple, consumer-friendly terms that eliminate data caps, equipment fees, and other fees — 5G is one of the most exciting developments in residential internet in many years.
It all depends on whether 5G home Internet service exists at your location.
Verizon, TMobile is the provider making the most of 5G signals to make home internet more accessible. However, they are not available everywhere. Note: AT&T will continue to use fiber and DSL for homes. Both providers offer dedicated 5G home internet plans, which promise speed and simplicity at an affordable price. In some areas, each provider might be able to service your home.
The future will show how 5G can disrupt the ISP market, if any. Let’s now look at the current comparisons between these top providers.
Verizon 5G Home Internet
Fixed wireless: Fastest average download speeds
Verizon
Verizon 5G Home Internet uses ultrawideband 5G technology for maximum download speeds of close to 1 gigabit and average download speeds up to 300 megabits per sec. This is the fastest average download speed offered by any major fixed wireless provider. It does not sacrifice coverage as it is currently only available to approximately 30 million households. The provider plans to increase this number to reach 50,000,000 by 2025.
T-Mobile Home Internet
Broader availability than any fixed wireless solution
T-Mobile Home Internet is just one year old. CNET first looked at the service in February. It descended on the country fully back in April. However, it has the greatest reach of any fixed wireless internet provider. T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network and the 5G grid have expanded its coverage area and provided service to more households than Verizon’s 5G. Even though the average download speed is only 100Mbps, this might still be enough for some customers, particularly those who live in rural areas, where DSL or satellite might have been better options.
T-Mobile and Verizon offer 5G home internet service.
The dark red circles on the map indicate the areas where Verizon 5G Home Internet is currently available.
Verizon
The coverage maps for 5G home internet solutions are unavailable from either provider. They are not yet listed in the Federal Communication Commission’s list of broadband providers. T-Mobile leads when you consider the number of households they cover. However, Verizon has recently closed the gap by revealing its 5G Ultra Wideband network in January.
T-Mobile Home Internet has more than 30 million homes in the U.S., while Verizon 5G Home Internet is accessible to around 30 million homes. T-Mobile Home Internet is available in over 600 cities across the nation and reaches over 30 million households.
Verizon’s service, however, is only available in a few 900 cities.
We won’t be listing 600+ T-Mobile cities to save our eyes (and our words count), but you can scan the T Mobile Home Internet PDF. Verizon has yet to make available a list of 900 cities where its 5G Home Internet service is available.

What are the 5G plans of Verizon and T-Mobile?
Are you tired of figuring out which broadband package to select from the seemingly endless options?
Are you tired of wasting your time with a tight data cap and sweating it out every month? No worries! T-Mobile and Verizon both embrace offering free, no-strings-attached broadband service. Both offer only one 5G home internet service with no contract and no data caps.
You’ll be able to choose between Verizon 5G Home or Verizon 5G Plus. Verizon 5G Home offers a 2-year price guarantee. Verizon 5G Plus comes with a 3-year price lock and some perks (see the promotions section).
Which one is quicker?
Although 5G can deliver gigabit download speeds up to 100Mbps, you shouldn’t expect the same from your home internet provider. T-Mobile claims that its customers will experience between 35-115Mbps and “average download speeds exceeding 100Mbps”. Why is this so low? T-Mobile Home Internet uses its expanding 5G grid and 4G LTE network to speed up its availability. So don’t expect a pure 5G experience.
“Home Internet customers might notice slower speeds during congestion due to data prioritization” is the first sentence in TMobile Home Internet’s complete terms. Service may be suspended, terminated, or restricted due to misuse, abnormal usage, interference with our network, or inability to provide quality service for other users.
On the other hand, Verizon tells subscribers that they can expect average download speeds of around 300Mbps. Verizon’s exclusive dependence on its Ultra Wideband5G network is the main reason for these faster speeds. Customers can expect speeds of 940Mbps using low-band, middle band, and millimeter-wave technology.
Which offer the greatest value?
T-Mobile might seem to be the better option, at $50 per month, compared to Verizon’s top plan at $607 per month. However, it is important to examine the cost per megabit to better understand the true value. T-Mobile’s average download speed of 100Mbps is comparable with what you would pay for a midrange broadband internet plan.
Verizon offers 300Mbps on average, so the cost per Mbps is just 17 cents. You can also choose the Verizon 5G Plus plan for $70 per month. This means that your cost per Mbps will rise to under 24 cents. However, you will get some additional perks depending on your opinion about Disney Plus. Customers with Verizon Unlimited mobile plans can receive 50% off their monthly costs. You can take advantage of this additional discount to make Verizon 5G Home — or any other plan — more affordable than any cable or fiber internet plans offered by rivals.
But what about the fine print?
Let’s go back to the idea of an unattached internet experience. T-Mobile and Verizon are keen to encourage customers to test their 5G home internet services. There are no hidden fees, taxes, or charges added to the monthly price. As we mentioned, there is no contract or data cap. You don’t have to pay any additional equipment rental fees, installation, or activation costs, and there are no trap fees.
What kind of deals and promotions do Verizon and T-Mobile offer you?
Are you still not convinced by the simple terms Verizon and T-Mobile offer? T-Mobile and Verizon will try to persuade you with their promotional offers, but Verizon has the advantage here.
T-Mobile offers new customers a Paramount Plus subscription to its Home Internet service for a year. This is a good value at $60 (especially for Star Trek lovers).
Verizon offers a more aggressive offer. Verizon 5G Home Plus customers who sign up for the service will get 12 months of Disney Plus ($96) and two months’ Sling T.V. ($70). One month of service will be provided at no cost. Verizon 5G Home subscribers receive six months of Disney Plus and one month free. Subscribers to any Verizon plan will receive 50% off their monthly costs if they have a Verizon Unlimited wireless plan.
What is the customer satisfaction score of T-Mobile and Verizon?
J.D.Power and the American Customer Satisfaction Index are two of our top customer satisfaction surveys in our ISP reviews. J.D. Power and the American Customer Satisfaction Index place Verizon at the top of their customer satisfaction rankings. However, these residential internet surveys focus on Verizon Fiber Internet, a fiber internet service and not the Verizon 5G Home Internet option.
It is difficult to find feedback on T-Mobile Home Internet, which has only been available in the market for less than a year. LAST YEAR, a CNET writer tested T-Mobile Home Internet during the pilot program, and he preferred it to his previous provider, Comcast Xfinity.
The latest Readers Choice award tagged TMobile Home Internet with the highest overall ratings among wireless carriers with a 7.7 rating on a scale of 0-10. This is well above the average ISP score (7.1) and places T-Mobile among the top 10 ISPs in overall customer satisfaction.
Is it too early to make a decision?
T-Mobile and Verizon continue to build out their 5G networks aggressively, so we are closer to the beginning than the end of the story, particularly about 5G fixed wireless internet.
T-Mobile Home Internet is slightly more available than the other providers. It makes it a more attractive choice, especially in rural areas and underserved regions of the country.
T-Mobile Home Internet’s download speeds are nearly three times that of Verizon 5G Home Internet. Verizon appears poised to offer greater upside shortly for cities with T-Mobile Home Internet and Verizon Router. This new router supports next-generation connections in the 6GHz band.
