UEFA Champions League 2021-2022 Season Group Stage 2nd Round Matches Preview
The UEFA Champions League 2021/22 season group stage began about two weeks ago and it will end on eight December of the current year.
The 1st round of the group stage shined with some incredible games and results. From the central matches, 6-time UCL winner Bayern Munich won 5-time UCL winner Barcelona 3-0.
The 13 times UCL winner and absolute leader with the won UCL trophies, Real Madrid won 3-time UCL winner Inter 1-0 in an away match.
After 14 years, the Champions League 2007 final where AC Milan won their 7th UCL trophy beating Liverpool 2-1, Milan and Liverpool met again in the UCL and in a dramatic match. This time the English club set a 3-2 victory.
The next round of the UEFA Champions League group stage will take place on 28 and 29 of September. Also, this round promises some juicy matches.
Paris Saint-Germain will face Manchester City. One of the first things that come to mind is Lionel Messi against Pep Guardiola, and the 2nd thing is the previous UCL semifinal. The last time, teams met in the semi-final of the last Champions League. Manchester City won the first leg 2-1, and the second leg 2-0 (aggregate: 4-1).
The Champions League 7 times winner AC Milan will face Atletico Madrid. The last time the sides met was in the 2014 UCL round of 16, where Atleti won 5-1 (total score of 2 matches).
Juventus will face UCL current winner Chelsea. The last time teams met in the Champions League was in the 2012/13 season Group E. The sides played a 2-2 draw in London, and in Turin, Juventus won Chelsea for 3-0. Can the English side take revenge?
In another match, FC Porto will face Liverpool. The last time, the sides met in the UCL 2018/19 season’s quarter-finals. Liverpool won the first leg 4-1 in Porto. The English side won the 2nd leg 2-0 in Liverpool (aggregate: 6-1).
Another interesting match is waiting for us in Manchester. Here, Manchester United will face Spanish Villarreal. The last time, teams met in the Champions League 2008/09 season, Group E. Teams played a goalless draw in both matches.
One more interesting fact is that these teams also met in the UCL 2005/06 season, Group D and also this time they played both matches in a goalless draw.
