How to draw a reindeer
Step 1:
This guide on how to draw a reindeer has some tricky elements, so we’ll take it easy! For this first step, we’ll start with your reindeer’s head.
The head will be quite round, as shown in our reference picture. The ear will be drawn on the head as a curved line with a dot at the end. With this head part ready, let’s move on to step 2!
Step 2:
In this part of your reindeer drawing, we will continue to draw the face and chest. Using the reference image as a guide, give the reindeer a pointed face with a rounded nose at the end. Once you’ve drawn the face, you can draw a curved line downward to create your reindeer’s chest.
Step 3:
We will draw the hind and front legs in this part of our guide to drawing a reindeer. First, use a curved line from the base of the reindeer’s neck to the back. Remember to add the tail!
Then, you can use rounded lines for the reindeer’s hip directly below the tail. Directly below the hip, you can draw the lean, slim leg.
Then there will be a short line for the belly before the front leg, which will not have the rounded hip of the back. Once it looks like our example in the reference image, you’re ready for the next step.
Step 4:
Now that you have the first two legs of your reindeer drawing, you can draw the other two. These will be on the other side of your reindeer, so although they look quite similar to the legs you drew earlier, they will be smaller to show perspective.
Step 5:
This step of our guide to drawing a reindeer covers some finer details. First, you can draw a simple collar on your reindeer’s neck using two slightly curved lines. You can create a simple nose with another short line near the tip of the face. Finally, a few lines in the ear will help show the inner ear.
Step 6:
The most recognizable aspect of a reindeer is its antlers, so we better add some to your reindeer drawing at this stage!
The antlers start between the ears and consist of curved lines with thick “branches” sticking out. The reference image will help illustrate how they should look!
Before moving on to the next step, you can add additional details. Start by drawing a line on your reindeer’s muzzle, then add a curved line for a smiling mouth inside. What other small details would you add to your drawing?
Step 7:
Before we get to coloring your reindeer, we’ll add a few final elements and details. First, you can draw a good eye for your reindeer design by drawing a simple circle with another colored circle inside. You can also remove a circle near it to show the reindeer a rosy cheek!
Then all that remains is to add a few final touches. We’ve added a few small lines to the neck and leg of our example drawing that give it more life.
Before completing this step, add all the details you want! It’s a great way to get creative with your design, and you can add anything from a background to a few extra elements. How will you add to your design?
Step 8:
You have reached the last step of our guide on how to draw a reindeer! Your drawing is already superb, but it must be finished with a little color. We showed you a way to color it in, but this is your chance to show us how creative you can be with your colors.
Using more subdued mediums like watercolors for most reindeer might be a fun idea, but then use a bright red nose pen or marker to make your reindeer look like the famous Rudolf. If you’ve drawn a background for your reindeer, remember to color it in too!
Do this to take your reindeer drawing to the next level.
