About the 2021 Amazon SDE Online Assessment
The Online Assessment happens after the interview screening.
However, the assessment depends on which SDE position you are applying for. The assessment versions we will focus on are Interns, New Grads, and Experienced (also known as SDE 2).
Amazon’s SDE Assessments for Interns and New Grads
The assessments for the Interns and the New Grads are almost the same. They both include three parts that every test taker must take.
Part 1: Code Debugging
You need to complete seven debugging questions within 20 minutes. The system shows incorrect code and asks you to fix them.
Part 2: Coding and Workstyles
Next, this section contains a 70-minute coding assessment and a 15-minute Workstyles Assessment.
There will be two coding questions presented. To master this part, it is highly recommended to practice the Data Structures and Algorithms section. AlgoMosnter has hundreds of coding problems on Arrays, Stacks, Queues, Linked Lists, Trees, Graphs, and more.
The Workstyles Assessment has work style statements. Here you will demonstrate your work attitude. One way to do well in this section is to do practice tests.
Part 3: Technical Problem Solving
Lastly, this section includes a work simulation, called the “Day In The Life SDE Simulation”. It’s four hours long and includes an interactive simulation of the daily working life of an SDE at Amazon.
There are also questions about project prioritization, dealing with team conflicts, handling underperforming colleagues, managing tight deadlines, etc.
To succeed in this section, all your answers should tie back to Amazon’s Leadership Principles.
Amazon’s SDE 2 Assessment for Experienced Positions
Moving along, this test is common for many senior SDE roles and it includes the following sections.
Amazon Coding Assessment
One is given 105 minutes to complete two coding questions and a Coding Approach Questionnaire. The Questionnaire requires explaining one’s preferred approach for solving coding questions. This section will be reviewed by real people and be brought up in your interview, so make sure to do well!
Amazon Workstyle Assessment
Next, this is a 15-minute personality test that assesses your preferred work style using multiple-choice questions.
Feedback Survey
Finally, a five-minute survey to provide feedback to Amazon.
A Helpful Tip for Passing the Assessments and Interviews
Get Used to Coding Under Pressure
The online coding assessments are timed. When practicing, use a timer to ensure you can meet the time limits on the actual assessment.
Also, try to analyze how much time it takes to finish each problem. In addition, examine how long it takes to read and understand each question.
How Do I Prepare for the Amazon Online Assessment?
