Delhi’s own Educational Board

The Education Department of the Delhi Government is an important department in charge of educational concerns. According to the RTE (Right to Education), children aged 6 to 14 have a cumulative educational requirement. In addition, all private schools set aside 25% of their slots for students from low-income families. Tertiary education is overseen by the Directorate of Higher Education.

In Delhi, schools are either run by the government or by the private sector. They are members of one of three educational boards: The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), or the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).

The backbone of education is student-centered learning. Every day, the world’s rapid changes and rising complexity create new issues and place expectations on our educational system. Today, more than ever, the need to modify and improve people in order to prepare them for active engagement while also preparing them for a global workforce is more important than ever. With changing global dynamics in mind, Arvind Kejriwal, the then-chief minister of Delhi, made the decision for the national capital to have its own school education board.

Kejriwal announced that between 20 to 25 Delhi government schools will be connected with the Delhi Board of School Education beginning in the 2021-2022 academic year (DBSE). The Central Board of Secondary Education will no longer recognize these schools (CBSE). The consent for the founding of the DBSE was provided during a cabinet meeting.

So, what does this mean for the game? Educators now recognize that today’s students require student-centered learning, regardless of the board they pursue. “It’s not just the board, but the methodology and content that makes a difference,” says Bijaya Kumar Sahoo, advisor-cum-working president of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan and founder-mentor of Sai International Education Group. Students’ competencies are influenced by exposure to multidisciplinary viewpoints, which acts as a catalyst for their future.”

Experts regard the move to create an international-level DBSE as a step in the right direction, as it means that students will have more options and opportunities.

It is important to note that the DBSE is not a replacement for the CBSE, but rather a new era addition that complements the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. While this is a great move, the board is also expected to implement the Delhi government’s recommendations for best international practises and methodologies in school education.

It is vital to build students’ capacity for self-directed learning and self-growth in light of the expansion of knowledge and changes in most fields, as well as the introduction of new ones. Students’ learning styles and preferences influence how they approach any task as well as how they perform within a learning environment. Any board that does the assessments will notice a significant difference.”

There should also be transparency in the process of selecting schools for affiliation with the new board, as well as clear instructions on the board’s curriculum. In the long run, this would secure the board’s true success.
