The USA is full of places to enjoy a great vacation and travel, but we will head to the Florida Keys – a group of coral reefs near Miami, in the Atlantic Ocean. How to get there
The islands have the only airport in Key West. There are no direct flights from Moscow. Possible routes for Russians departing from Moscow:
through New York ;
Miami;
through any other city in Europe or the United States.
In the high season, there are direct flights from Moscow to Miami, then one transfer will be required. But more often it is 2 transplants. I would recommend flying the Moscow-London-Miami-Key West route as the least expensive option. Already on the approach to the airport, you can see the Florida Keys on the map – an elongated chain of small and large islands south of Miami. Descending further reveals breathtaking views – the emerald blue ocean, the vibrant lush tropical vegetation, dazzling white sand.
Important: Key West and other islands in the Florida Keys can also be reached by key west car service. Most of the islands are connected to Florida and to each other by a through highway and bridges.
The road itself is a major attraction with mesmerizing island and sea views. There are 42 bridges of various architectures on 180 kilometers of the route.
Another way for tourists to visit the archipelago is by sea, on a special cruise ship.
History
The Florida Keys are of coral origin. Previously, Indians lived here, who lived quietly until the 16th century, before the arrival of Spanish sailors. They did not stay on the islands, but they brought terrible diseases with them. The local population, which had no immunity, all died out. After some time, white people appeared on the Florida Keys, and tourism began to flourish with the construction of a bridge connecting with the mainland.

For lovers of virgin nature, I recommend visiting the Dry Tortugas National Park, which consists of a group of coral reefs. Boats go there, there is no car communication. Fishing and hunting are strictly prohibited here. Corals must be treated with care; it is strictly forbidden to destroy them. Many ships have sunk in this area due to shallow water and intense currents.
It also houses a historic landmark – Fort Jefferson, a massive fortress founded to fight piracy. Divers will find amazing underwater landscapes here with an abundance of fish and marine animals in the bizarre tangle of corals.
Important: The best time to visit Dry Tortugas is from November to April.
The diving capital is the island of Key Largo. Fans of fishing should definitely go here, where they will be offer the most interesting fishing for tuna in the open sea. It is here that scuba divers will find a bronze statue of Christ underwater, which makes a fabulous impression. No less spectacular is the view of the British warship during the last world war. In numerous restaurants, you can taste fresh fish and seafood.
Tourists are also engage in fishing on other islands. In addition to surface fishing, spearfishing for lobsters is popular on Marathon Island.

Beaches
I really like the beaches in Dry Tortugas Park, but many people prefer a beach holiday on Key West due to a large amount of entertainment, soft white sand, rich vegetation. There are volleyball courts, tennis courts, golf courses. For those who do not want to go diving. Boat trips with a glass-bottom over a coral reef are offer.
Key West is the resting place of many rich and famous people. Artists organize exhibitions of their works, and a local theater is open. In Key West, you can visit the Hemingway Museum and other cultural attractions.
