What To Do Before You Sell An Old Android Phone?

Looking to upgrade to a new Android phone and want to sell your phone for cash online? Or are you planning on giving your old phone to a friend or relative? While it is a brilliant idea, you must first remove all your data from the device before proceeding. However, there are a plethora of other things you should take care of before trashing your old device, which might cause problems down the line.

You should make sure that the device is unlinked from any of your accounts, that it does not contain any of your data, and that it is in “saleable” shape. These are such minor details, but they tend to overlook them because most people replace their devices every two years. Everything you should know before selling your Android phone is below.

  1. Backup The Contacts

If you have an Android phone and often use Google apps, keep a backup of your contacts. If your contacts aren’t already synchronized to your Gmail account, go to the link https://contacts.google.com/ to do so manually.

  1. Backup The Call Records And Messages

You can backup your messages and call logs in the same way that you can backup your contacts. Third-party software such as SMS Backup and Restore can use to back up your texts. You may save a backup of your texts on Google Drive and restore them on your new phone from there. You may also use the same software to back up your call history.

  1. Backup The Media

You may use Google Photos, Google Drive, Microsoft’s OneDrive, DropBox, or any other reputable Cloud service to backup your media files. You can manually move the data to an external hard drive or storage before attempting to sell your smart phone.

  1. Log Out From All The Accounts

A factory reset will wipe your phone completely, but it will not lock you out of your Google account (s). You don’t need to leave your Google, Instagram, or Dropbox account logged in on a device and allow someone else to access your personal data. Before doing a factory reset, make sure you log out of any Google accounts and other social accounts. Search for “accounts” in the settings option or go to “Accounts” in Gmail settings to see whether any accounts sign in. The record of all of the accounts you’ve logged into on the device may see here. Tap each one and select Remove account from the drop-down menu. It’s possible that you’ll have to save your primary Google account for last.

  1. Check And Remove Micro SD Card

Now that you’ve taken care of the OS, it’s time to remove your current Android device’s SIM card and microSD card (if applicable). It’s also a brilliant idea to properly clean the device with a moist microfiber cloth since it’s likely to become rather dirty over time. You should retain the phone’s bill, box, and other attachments handy and pass them on to the new owner.

  1. Perform Factory Reset

You should always factory reset the device to sell phones. You can do it after you have removed all of your data and created backups of everything necessary. Go to Settings > System > Advanced > Reset options > Erase all data on stock Android phones like the Pixel series (factory reset). On some of the other manufacturers’ phones, this option may locate in different locations. It will delete any accounts associated with the device and return the application to its default state of inactivity. One such way, when the new owner of your old phone receives it, they will have to set it up from scratch, just as they would with a new phone.

  1. Repack The Device

To begin, clean your old phone with a clean cloth, especially one that has been moistened with a disinfectant solution. It’s not necessary, but it’s a good idea to clean off the dust and bacteria that have accumulated on the device’s surface. We assume you retained the phone box and all of the accessories that came with it when you bought it. Inside the box, place your phone and accessories.

Wrapping Up

That’s what should happen when it comes to preparing your phone for transit to its new home. Make a backup, remove the SIM and SD card from the phone, and conduct a factory reset to put it all together. If you’re planning to sell your old device, check out a suitable online store where you can sell or trade-in your phone for the best price.
